Vancouver Man to Open New ‘Drug Store’ Offering Cocaine, Heroin, MDMA and Meth

In what could be a watershed moment for the nascent drug legalization movement, the Canadian province of B.C. obtained an exemption from federal drug laws that decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of hard drugs.

Vancouver resident Jerry Martin plans to challenge the limits of the B.C. drug decriminalization movement by opening up a new type of “drug store.” One that provides users with access to a safe supply of hard drugs such as Cocaine, Heroin, MDMA and Meth.

The move to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of hard drugs comes five years after the province of B.C. declared a public health emergency relating to drug overdoses. Fed up with seeing their constituents dying from preventable drug overdoses, provincial leadership requested and received a three-year exemption from the federal criminal codes; the three-year term will run from January 30, 2023, to January 30, 2026.

While decriminalization has been shown to reduce crime and increase public health, it does not go far enough, according to some advocates. That’s because decriminalization does not address the fact that the drugs are still obtained illegally from street dealers, known to contaminate their offerings with dangerous fillers and other drugs.

Now, with the imminent onset of decriminalization, one Vancouver man is doing something to combat the type of dirty drugs he believes took his brother’s life. Jerry Martin, who previously ran a cannabis dispensary in Saskatchewan, wants to open The Drugs Store, where he will sell hard drugs like heroin, cocaine and MDMA. The goal is to provide drug users with a safe supply of their drugs, which should significantly reduce the risk of adverse medical effects.

Martin knows that his venture is a risky one, both for his freedom and his life. Since selling the drugs will remain illegal, he risks running afoul of authorities and potentially facing severe criminal charges. He also knows that his business will be an attractive target for theft and reprisal from local street dealers. He plans to have bulletproof vests and security on-site to protect his staff.

Despite the dangers, Martin intends to press on with opening The Drugs Store, which he hopes to have up and running by the end of January.

Referring to a street known for the prevalence of illicit drugs, Martin explained what drives him, stating:

“I lost my brother a couple of months ago on Hastings. He went down there to score and never made it back home. Every day I’m not open, more people die. I can’t open fast enough.”
