A New York grand jury voted today to indict Donald Trump in connection with an alleged hush money payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.
According to Trump’s attorney Joseph Tacopina, a New York grand jury voted today to indict former U.S. President Donald Trump in relation to an alleged $130,000 hush money payment made to ex-porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 Presidential election. The alleged hush money payment was made by Trump’s then-attorney, Michael Cohen.
The alleged crime Trump is being indicted for stems from the fact that his company, The Trump Organization, allegedly recorded the $130,000 reimbursement to Cohen as a legal expense.
It’s been reported that the $130,000 payment by Cohen to Daniels ahead of the 2016 election was to keep her quiet regarding a past sexual encounter she allegedly had with the former President. For the record, Trump has denied having any sexual relations with the former porn star.
The unprecedented indictment will see Donald Trump become the first former U.S. President to be charged with a crime. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will be prosecuting the criminal case against Trump.
Considering that there is absolutely no precedent for an indictment like this, it will be very interesting to see how things play out from here.
