Are New Jersey Drones on the Hunt for a Missing Nuclear Bomb?

According to a chilling new theory proposed by John Ferguson, founder of Saxon Unmanned, the mysterious New Jersey drones could be searching for a rogue nuclear warhead.

In the still of the night, skies over New Jersey have become a theater of mystery, with drones quietly crisscrossing their way through the darkness. The strange phenomenon has sparked speculation, fear, and conspiracy theories, with some pointing to a chilling possibility: a rogue nuclear warhead could be hidden somewhere on US soil.

Over the past month, residents from New Jersey, New York, and Maryland have reported seeing large drones—some up to six feet in diameter—flying in systematic patterns. These sightings, which typically occur between sunset and 11 p.m., have drawn the attention of federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). However, official statements have done little to quell public concern.

A joint statement from the FBI and DHS read:

“The FBI, DHS and our federal partners, in close coordination with the New Jersey State Police, continue to deploy personnel and technology to investigate this situation and confirm whether the reported drone flights are actually drones or are instead manned aircraft or otherwise inaccurate sightings.”

Chilling New Theory

One compelling theory comes from John Ferguson, a military veteran with over 25 years of experience in drone technology and the founder of Saxon Unmanned. Ferguson suggests these drones are part of a covert operation to locate a missing nuclear warhead, potentially smuggled into the United States from Ukraine.

In a recent TikTok post, Ferguson explained:

“The only reason why you would ever fly an unmanned aircraft at night is if you’re looking for something … So my belief is they’re trying to smell something on the ground – gas leak, radioactive material, whatever.”

Ferguson claims the missing warhead could date back to the 1980s when nuclear disarmament efforts under President Ronald Reagan led to the dismantling of numerous missiles. However, not all warheads were accounted for.

As Ferguson recounted a chilling conversation with a whistleblower, he went on to explain:

“Back in the 1980s, Ronald Reagan had dismantled the nuclear program, and there were, with Russia, there were countless nuclear missiles that were disarmed and disposed of. Well, there were over 80, I believe, over 80 nuclear warheads that were in Ukraine that came up missing. Okay? We don’t know where they are, maybe somebody does, but nobody really knows where these are, I speak to some pretty high-level government officials on this stuff, and it seems as though that is the case.”

Radiation “Sniffers”

Ferguson theorizes that the drones are equipped with advanced sensors capable of detecting radioactive material. These include thermal imaging devices and “sniffer” technology that can identify radiation sources on the ground.

Adding that similar drone operations occurred years ago in the Midwest, Ferguson believes the current mission is a preventative measure to avert a potential terror attack, stating:

“The only reason why you would ever fly an aircraft, an unmanned aircraft, at night is if you’re looking for something … we have special sensors that can detect gas leaks. We also have special sensors that can detect radioactive material.”

Missing Radioactive Source Adds Fuel to Fire

The mystery deepened earlier this month when the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) reported the loss of a small radioactive source in Newfield, New Jersey. The material, licensed to a cancer treatment facility, was being shipped for disposal but arrived at its destination in a damaged and empty container.

While the NRC emphasized the material was not highly dangerous, its loss has added to the growing anxiety. Political commentator Officer Lew speculated in a social media post:

“This might be the reason for the drones..just speculation at this point.”

Government Reassurances

Despite Ferguson’s claims and the public’s growing concerns, federal officials continue to downplay the situation. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh told reporters last week that the drones do not appear to be linked to the US military or foreign adversaries.

Similarly, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy dismissed conspiracy theories, stating that there is “zero evidence” that the military or federal government are hiding anything, adding:

“[He] would just like to debunk there’s a lot of conspiracy theories out there right now.”

President-elect Donald Trump, however, has added his voice to the debate. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said:

“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!”

Unanswered Questions

As federal investigations continue, questions remain. Could these drones truly be searching for a lost nuclear warhead? Or is this simply a case of mistaken identity, fueled by public paranoia and a lack of transparency?

Further fueling the conspiracy fire, Ferguson warned:

“It’s out there. Nobody knows where it’s at now. It left Europe. Now it’s gone.”

Whether his claims hold water or not, one thing is certain: the skies over New Jersey are keeping everyone on edge.
